Ketogenic Diet

Keto is short for “ketogenic” which means that the body produces small fuel molecules called “ketones” to power itself instead of relying on sugar or carbohydrates for energy production. Ketones are produced when the body is in a state of ketosis. Ketosis is a natural process that occurs when there isn't enough food to provide energy for the body's needs. The liver then breaks down fat and produces ketones, which can be used by cells as energy source.


The keto diet is a high-fat diet that shares many similarities with low-carb diets. It involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake, and replacing it with fat. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis. The whole point of going keto is to reach ketosis, a metabolic process that happens when your body uses fat instead of carbs for energy. Ketones are useful for people who want to lose weight, as they can help them burn fat more quickly. They can also be helpful for people with diabetes, as they can help regulate blood sugar levels


To get there, you’ve got to do the obvious: eat a whole lot of fat and little to no carbs.

It’s restrictive but you can still create surprisingly delicious food!
